From Our President

Happy end of Term 3 to all the families, students and community members connected to Clovelly Public School. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated teaching and administrative staff, who invest tremendous effort in fostering positive learning environments for students at all levels within the school.

Great progress has been made on the School Hall renovation project. It has been made possible with major support from the NSW Government via the Department of Education, but also and importantly through strategic and private support from the P&C, the NSW Community Building Partnership Program, Clovelly out of School Care, along with numerous generous donors, as well as proceeds from fundraising events from 2021-2023. More than $450,000 has been contributed! So a huge thanks to all involved, as I write we expect handover to occur in early October, just in time for Clofest and all the school activities in Term 4 from the School Play, to the Year 6 Dinner/Dance and much more.

This past term we were treated to the always popular Book Week parade, another super fun and successful Trivia night (thanks Andrea!), the well-attended Father’s and Carer’s Day breakfast, the school Athletics Carnival and the recent Zone races. Congratulations to all the students who participated and even placed!

The Canteen continues to go from strength to strength reviewing and evolving the menu, and as I understand it, Frank’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese is a new instant favourite. Big thanks to Amy and the whole Canteen team, as well as the committee chair Rebecca, and all those that volunteer. It would not work without the strong community support it receives.

We are looking forward to hearing performances from the Band at Clofest. From all reports participation numbers are tracking back to pre-Covid levels, and the two more senior bands have been taking out gold medals at recent area-wide competitions.

The Netball club conducted a successful fundraising BBQ, and again thanks to all the teams and parents who helped out on the day to raise funds for the club. And special congrats to the graduating Year 6 Clovelly Cobras for finishing the regular season in 4th place and heading into the semi-finals!

We still have a few vacancies for positions at the P&C, including:

  • Vice President
  • Chair of the SoFun (Social and Fundraising) Committee
  • Canteen Volunteer Coordinator

I will also be working towards handing over the role of President in Term 4 as my daughters will be graduating. Please be in touch via email if you are interested in learning more at clovellypublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au

And on that note, a final huge thanks to all those who volunteer time to represent the various functions under the P&C, with special thanks to fellow executive members, Angie (Treasurer), Seta (VP) and Charlie (Secretary).

It is such a supportive group and it has been a true privilege working with everyone involved during my time as President. Have a restful holiday and let’s all look forward with excitement for what lies ahead in Term 4 and the end of the year.

Sincerely,

John Richardson, P&C President

Canteen News

Another busy term is drawing to a close! Between the Ashes, the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Rugby World Cup there has been lots of highs, lows and banter between the canteen staff and the children, which has been great fun.

We attended an informative Sustainable Canteen workshop in Bondi. Following the workshop we have phased out individual soy sauce sachets and sauces. We now have sauce stations where the children can help themselves to the sauces if they would like them. We are also phasing out the use of muffin cases and baking paper to help the playground be free from canteen litter.

With the warmer weather, we are seeing bumper orders for our yummy fruit salads and yoghurt cups, which is great to see and serve. As summer approaches we have decided to bring back the Delicious Dumplings on a Tuesday. The dumplings will replace the Mac ‘n’ Cheese and Lasagne.

To mark the conclusion of Term 3, we’re excited to hold our Sausage Sizzle event. We’re pleased to offer gluten-free and vegetarian options and an icy pole treat.

A massive shout-out goes to The Meat Store family, including Maddie from Year 3, Peter, and Amy, for their incredible generosity in providing the delectable gluten-free beef sausages. Your support is greatly appreciated!

As always we would like to thank the Clovelly children, community and staff for their continued support of the school canteen. We love what we do and enjoy serving the school with freshly made food. Happy holidays, rest up so you are ready for a busy Term 4!

Amy, Kathryn, Trudy, Frank and Boris.

Netball News

As another successful netball season ends for the Clovelly Netball Club, we want to share some exciting highlights from our recent activities.

On Saturday, September 2nd, we hosted our annual BBQ fundraiser at the netball courts, and it was a resounding success. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteer parents and children, we managed to raise an impressive $4,000. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to The Meat Store for their continued generous support of the Clovelly Netball Club.

With these funds in hand, our committee is now in the process of carefully considering how best to allocate them to support and foster the growth of our players and coaches at Clovelly Netball Club.

We’re especially proud of our Year 6 Cobras team, which had an outstanding season. They secured a spot in the Top 4 of Division 1, earning them a place in the finals where they competed for 3rd/4th position – and won, taking our third place! A huge shoutout to the dedicated Year 6 coaches, Matt and Alison, who have been guiding this team since Year 3, and to their fantastic team manager, Dee.

Thanks to the immense success of our 2022 fundraising BBQ, we were able to offer private coaching sessions with Kat McGrath to many of our teams. The positive feedback received from all participating teams has been incredibly encouraging and reinforces our commitment to providing valuable resources to our players.

Lastly, I want to express my sincere gratitude to my fellow committee members, Joh, Lydia, and Lieke, for their unwavering support during my tenure as the chair of the netball sub-committee in 2023.

As we wrap up this season, we eagerly look ahead to the exciting events and opportunities that 2024 will bring to the Clovelly Netball Club. We can’t wait to see everyone back on the courts.

Warm regards,

Lisa Bristowe
