Staying strong together

The P&C continues to meet on the first Tuesday of the month during school term, meaning we’ve seen a wonderful group online this term for meetings on the July 13 and August 10. But it doesn’t all happen at the meetings! Members and volunteers continue to manage, support and drive a large number of activities across the school.

Thank you, class parents

Special thanks to the Class Parent Coordinator Jane Lea, and the Class Parents themselves. These roles have proven invaluable during the home learning period as an extra line of support and communication. Please make sure you take the time to thank your Class Parent and yourselves(!) as parents and carers of a strong community that has come together to help each other during these unusual times.

School band

The Band continues to operate via an online program. Thank you to Murray Jackson who has received very positive feedback regarding this program.

Other P&C services

Other extra-curricular activities have been suspended, however our Languages and Extra-Curricular Activities Coordinator, Mitch O’Donohue, is progressing work on improving the program with support from Rebecca Beavis.

The Canteen is closed, however, members of the team, along with Grounds and Environment Coordinator Shane Ellis, are looking at ways of constructing an edible garden.

Even some of our wonderful netball coaches from the Netball Committee have been sending out exercise sheets to team members!

And our new website is ready to launch with a huge thank you to Amanda Collier for her amazing design and content management plan.

School improvement projects

The school and P&C continues to work with the NSW Department of Education on the school hall revitalisation project. Plans are still in the concept stage and options being explored but momentum is strong. Stay tuned for more news on this front.

P&C changes

It is with some sadness but heartfelt thanks that we say farewell to our P&C President, Ben Glover. BJ and his family have made the big decision to move overseas and will be leaving us in November. We thank him for his strong leadership of the P&C over the past few years, driving improvements on several fronts. Best of luck BJ!

Next P&C meeting

The next P&C meeting is scheduled Tuesday, October 5 , the first day of Term 4, subject to decision on an extraordinary meeting in September.

Join us

The P&C is always looking for new members of the community to join and participate in its many activities and support the school. While office bearers are typically elected at the annual AGM held in March, vacancies such as above arise. If you would like to express interest in an office bearer position, or simply learn more, please don’t hesitate to email:

Allison (Al) Spicer, Secretary,
clovellypublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au

Thanks again BJ! And thank you to the school community.

SECRET COOKIE RECIPE
Please find below the ‘secret’ recipe for the Canteen’s famous Choc Chip cookies so the kids can enjoy making – and eating – them at home!

Ingredients
150g unsalted butter
80g (1/2 cup) lightly packed brown sugar
100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar
1 egg at room temperature
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
150g (1 cup) plain flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
180g (2 cups) rolled oats
150g Cadbury Baking Milk Chocolate, coarsely chopped

Method
Step 1 – Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a large baking tray with non-stick baking paper.
Step 2 – Use an electric beater to beat the butter and combined sugar in a medium bowl until pale and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla, and beat until well combined.
Step 3 – Sift the flour and baking powder over the egg mixture. Add the oats and chocolate, and stir until well combined.
Step 4 – Roll tablespoonfuls of the mixture into balls. Place on lined tray. Flatten slightly. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until light golden.
Step 5 – Set aside on the tray for 5 minutes to cool before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
